2.6.a. Foster Student Ownership of Learning

Details:
ISTE Standard 2.6.a “Encourage Student Ownership of Learning” directs teachers to promote student ownership in the learning process. With technologies like Google Docs and Google Sites, students are able to set up e-portfolios where they systematically sort out drafts, reflection, and revision, fostering self-reliance and personal accountability.

Substandards:
-One of the substandards encourages the use of platforms for accommodating personal portfolio building, in which students can monitor and reflect on their own progress.
-The other encourages the integration of interactive tools that foster ongoing feedback and self-tracking, maintaining a culture for ongoing, self-directed learning.

Reflection:
I am interested in seeing how Standard 2.6.a focuses on empowering students through technology. By creating and managing their own e-portfolios, students become active learners, learning to reflect critically on themselves and take ownership of their own learning.

Alignment of Artifacts 1 and 2 with ISTE Standard 2.6.a

Artifacts 1 and 2 align with ISTE Standard 2.6.a by creating student ownership of learning through the use of digital tools. In Artifact 1, students created individual e-portfolios in Google Sites to organize their drafts, reflections, revisions, and final projects, which enabled them to track their own progress in school over time. In Artifact 2, students completed weekly self-reflection journals using Google Docs, allowing them to evaluate their learning, set goals, and apply continuous improvement. Both artifacts facilitate self-directed learning, digital organization, and metacognitive capabilities, allowing students to manage their educational growth through technology.
